Daniel’s LAAS Journey

Daniel Harris’ life has been enriched since becoming a Lifestyle Assistance and Accommodation Service (LAAS) client 22 years ago.

Daniel receives day options and accommodation services, with LAAS going above and beyond with the care and support they have provided for him since he was 23 years old.

Daniel’s mother Denise says, “You won’t receive that at any other service.”

Over the years Daniel has enjoyed going on holidays to Kangaroo Island, Queensland and Perth, and being a big Adelaide Crows fan, has even made several trips to Adelaide to watch them play as well as attend meet-the-player events.

Daniel is also a big music lover, and thanks to LAAS, has attended a number of music concerts.

At day options, Daniel learns life skills, helping him to develop his communication, self-directed engaged learning and critical thinking.

In the LAAS accommodation, Daniel has learnt important household skills such as preparing healthy meals and cooking them.

He has developed strong friendships with other LAAS clients he has gotten to know over the years, which is another reason why he loves being part of the LAAS community.

The staff at LAAS are wonderful with Daniel, they bring a smile to his face every day by helping him reach his goals whilst having fun along the way.

A moment that is significant to Dan was an outing to the Berri golf course for his birthday one year. On the day he was given a golf club by LAAS staff as a present so he could join in and have some fun.

Denise says “Dan is very happy there; he engages really well with the staff. The people surrounding him at LAAS make him feel so welcomed and loved”.’
